Six lions killed in Uganda : The Uganda wildlife authority in March announced the killing of six lions that are believed to have been poisoned by men that wanted several parts from their bodies. The lions were found in the famous Ishasha sector that is known for its tree climbing lions and were believed to have been poisoned before they were butchered for their parts. The Uganda wildlife authority placed a 10 million shillings bounty for any one that knew any details on the killed lions and because of this it led the Uganda people’s defence force, Uganda police and the Uganda wildlife authority made a joint security team this led to the arrest of four men after an operation in kyenyabutongo village, kanungu district where they have been hiding after the event.

The suspected men namely; Ampurira Brian 26, Tumuhire Vincent, 49, Aliyo Robert 40 years and Miliango Davi 68 took the team of security personnel to the location where they butchered the lions and on discovery, they found four  lion heads, 15 legs and the sixteenth leg is believed to have been thrown in the park after admitting to the crime, the security personnel invaded their homes where they found a jerry can of lion fat oil  in the banana plantation, two spears and a panga that they used at the home of tumuhire Vincent.

The lions were poisoned by a chemical called furadan commercially known as carbofuran manufactured by FMC Corporation an American company which is a highly toxic granular insecticide that is used in agriculture to prevent insects from destroying crops. However there has been a high rise in the use of the chemical by poachers to kill a number of animals for their parts. As a way to combat poaching activities in the country, the Uganda Wildlife Authority Act stipulates that any person that is found guilty of the illegal activity of poaching the endangered, critically endangered or protected species be imprisoned for life will pay a fine of 10, 000 currency points which sum up to 200 million Uganda shillings because a currency point is equivalent to 20000 ugx.

FATE OF LION TRACKING AFTER THE KILLING OF THE LIONS
